Hello, I am Lea

I am a statistician with a PhD in Environmental Sciences, who is passionate about interdisciplinary work and science communication.

Presently, I am holding a postdoctoral research position within the research group led by David Ginsbourger at the University of Bern. The postdoc aims to investigate the application of statistical data science approaches in various fields. In October 2023, I completed my PhD at the University of Lausanne under the supervision of Niklas Linde. My thesis was titled “Likelihood estimation and risk assessment for inverse problems in the geosciences”.

My latest research focuses on the estimation of probabilities associated with rare events, playing a crucial role in informing decision-making processes. Specifically, my current work delves into an energy-based model approach to rare event probability estimation (preprint, joint work with David Ginsbourger, Arnaud Doucet and Niklas Linde).

Furthermore, I am currently engaged in two new research projects. Firstly, I’m delving into Gaussian process modeling for molecules, and secondly, I’m exploring the inference of features within random fields using dimensionality reduction techniques and the correlated pseudo-marginal method.
